Oldham Athletic are no exception to this. Having entered the tournament in the 1st Round Proper back in November, they eventually overcame Doncaster Rovers after a replay, the first game finishing 2-2 at Boundary Park and the replay finishing 2-1 to Oldham at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The 2nd Round game for Oldham was a home tie against Crewe Alexandra which finished 1-0 to the latics and set up a 3rd Round away trip to Goodison Park to take on Premiership Everton in January.
The 3rd Round tie took place in Merseyside on the 5th January with Oldham taking some 5,500 supporters and after a half hour delay due to a fire in a local chip shop the game got under way. Oldham progressed thanks to a Gary McDonald goal just before half time and hung on at the end to record a deserved victory against a side currently 6th in the Premier League. (BBC Match Report)
Oldham Athletic were drawn in the 4th Round of the FA Cup against Huddersfield Town. Former Latics legend Andy Ritchie will bring his side to Boundary Park on the 26th January. Both League One sides will battle it out for the chance to reach the 5th Round of the cup and be amongst the last 16 teams in the competition.
Although it seems hard to believe Oldham Athletic will make it to the final there is always a chance.
